Day 321 Boating

Thursday 17 November

I'm rocking! I've spent 7 hours on a boat today and I can still feel the movement. It's rather weird when sat at a table blogging.  We had an early start, leaving before Vicky went to work, and met our boat and owner at 7.45 at the marina.  Billy launched it for us so all we had to do was step into her from the pontoon.

We had a quick briefing then Billy left us to get on with it. Gaz steered us expertly out of the marina then we followed the marker posts to avoid the sandbanks and headed off to the far side of Woody Island. We drifted and fished over the wrecks there with little success but ever hopeful.   Here's the first catch of the day, no, not the fish, that was the bait.

The squid ended up as bait himself. For a change of scene we motored over to Moon Point on Fraser Island.  We had been told we could nose onto the beaches but not knowing the waters decided against it.  We ate our picnic lunch on the drift then the intrepid anglers got back to work.

Ever Hopeful!

I just enjoyed the sun, a couple of su dokus and watching the wildlife.  There were lots of dolphin out there, pied cormorants and terns. We also saw a large eagle.  Ian's sole was the best fish of the day.  They did catch 3 other species but all very small.

By 3.00 the fish had stopped biting and we'd had enough of the hot sun so set off back to the marina. It was a great day. In the evening Gaz and Vicky treated us to a lovely Italian meal.  We've now just about finished packing as we're leaving them for a week.  First stop Canberra.
