Day 312 Toogoom

We went to Toogoom for lunch this morning.  This is a village on an estuary just north of Hervey Bay.  It seems to consist of a large housing estate set back from the water.  Unlike home each house was completely individual in style though most were single storey and they were all on big plots of land.  It was very pleasant.  At the waters edge the road ended at a slipway  and carpark with a restaurant and bakery/cafe.  Gaz and Vicky had enjoyed eating at the cafe previously but when we went there we found they had reduced their menu as they seemed to be concentrating on the bakery side. Also they had no electricity!  They were still open but the menu choice was extremely limited so we went over to the restaurant.  It had a lovely terrace overlooking the estuary and we ate in the shade of big umbrellas under some trees.  The food was excellent. I decided it was time to try the seafood so shared some oysters with Ian to start, followed by king prawns (lots of them) in a garlic cream sauce on rice with chips (!) and salad. It was delicious but big.  I don't think I'll be eating much this evening.  We were there for a couple of hours, partly because the service was slow but also enjoying watching the boats launch on the slipway, the people on the sand and the miriads of small crabs in the mud under the jetty beside the restaurant.

At the moment the boys are fishing again.  Vicky and I have walked over for a chat but they'd only caught a few tiny fish.  They're enjoying themselves greatly out there, in the dark, with their new headlamps and a tub of worms!
