Day 281 Rugby, Newport Transporter Bridge & Friends

Saturday 8 October

It was a busy day. Ian was up before 6.00 to watch the stirring performance of Wales rugby team, beating Ireland in the World Cup.  I slept through it! Vicky & Gaz watched it in an Irish bar! Report here.We then watched France beat England & we'll meet them in the semi finals next Saturday. Meanwhile there was a lot of congratulating facebooking going on amongst our Welsh friends.

Next we took a drive to Newport to go over the transporter bridge.  There are only a handful of them in the world & the signpost beside the bridge points them all out.  We haven't been over it for years as it's been shut recurrently for repairs. We were disappointed the upper walkway wasn't open.  for some reason they only allow people to climb up there to walk across, twice a year.  I took a few photos then Ian's early start caught up with him so we went home for a snooze.

Later in the afternoon we had visitors. Huw Mel & Mia came over for food &  the evening but also old friends B&V and their two delightful kids popped in .   They live in Portsmouth and we usually see each other about once a year.  It was nice to catch up.

Photos are all of the transporter bridge of course. there's too many but I couldn't decide what to leave out!
