Day 155- Bike Ride to Cardiff

We had a lovely day on Saturday. The forecast was for wall to wall sunshine so I put on the sunscreen and got out the bikes. We cheated a bit by putting them on the back of the car as far as Coryton.  We live at the top of a steep hill and couldn't face the long haul up it at the end of the day. We'd been looking forward to trying this ride for a while, following the Taff Trail into Cardiff, switching to the Bay Trail for a 6 mile loop around Cardiff Bay where we would have lunch on the waterfront and then back home. It's quite impressive that the 6 miles into Cardiff is not only traffic free but is a long way from roads and is either rural or parkland.  Other than a tiny bit of a very quiet road through a housing estate in Whitchurch we didn't meet a road or traffic until emerging from Sophia Gardens in the very centr of Cardiff. After about a mile on pavements we were again traffic free riding around the bay.  This is a great loop, taking you through Penarth Marina and over the Barrage before reaching the heart of the Bay by the Pierhead Building & Senedd.  There we took a seat at a table outside Nandos for lunch when down came the rain - this was not forecast! Luckily we found a seat inside by the window where we could keep an eye on the bikes as we'd forgotten our locks.   It turned ou to be a 20 mile cycle, our longest yet & yes, we were very glad not to have to cycle up the hill at the end!

Here's a couple of photos of the bay and the new Rafting Centre which we stopped at to watch the fun
